     Tuesday 3rd - Saturday 7th August 2004 - Sailing to Whitehaven Beach
After Cairns Arlie Beach was our next stop with the intention of going on a sailing trip around the White Sunday Islands to see one of the top 5 beaches in the world - Whitehaven Beach. It was overwhelming thereÖ
After a very short night in Arlie Beach in a twelve bed dorm we got our stuff together and went down to the harbour to meet our captain. After a short time we boarded the little sailing boat, which had room for 12 passengers and 2 crew. It carries the name Iceberg with a little rescue boat called Icecube. The first day sailing wasnít really possible, because there was no wind. Going back home the sailing was great. Having two sails up in the air the boat tilted 45 degrees to the side and then shot through the water. At that time I couldnít be under deck any more, because there I started feeling seasick, which is very unusual. Of course, everybody could have a turn steering the ship and everybody helped setting sails. We got some impressions of how a sailing ship works and itís a really nice sport I must confess. The second day took us to Whitehaven Beach - a beach so beautiful I havenít seen anywhere so far.

Our luxurious boat

Not fast enough to do waterskiing, but still fun

The sand on the beach is white as snow and it partly feels like walking over flower. 99% silica and without sunglasses very difficult to look at - absolutely gorgeous.
